La Tahona de Besnes

La Tahona de Besnes is a rural tourism center that offers Asturias excellence with the best conditions in an unique environment.

The complex, neatly refurbished, consists of a seasonal hotel with 13 exclusive rooms, a restaurant and 5 rural houses with different capacities, from 2 to 14 places, to suit the needs of families and groups.

The renewed Tahona opens its doors to nearly endless possibilities: enjoying the architectural richness, the gastronomy and popular arts and traditions, get the most out of a range of activities like hiking in the Picos de Europa paths, horse riding, mountain biking, canoeing, rafting, canyoning, climbing, speleology, fishing… and, of course, enjoying a beach day.

After an intense search we chose this place, because of its strategic location and the necessary conditions we needed for our purpose: providing rest, close treatment, beauty; in essence, making the traveller feels at home.

Short History

This old bakehouse, built at the beginning of the century, provided bread to the council of Peñamellera Alta, activity that was abandoned in 1970 with the arrival of the modern baking industry. It wasn´t until the boom of rural tourism in the eighties when this magic place full of history was refurbished. The Principality of Asturias dicided to refurbish a few key places of the Asturian map, and gave them new life as rural hotels with a special charm. That is how la Tahona de Besnes resurfaces. This time it´s not offering bread or flour, but shelter to every kind of travellers, specially to lovers of our geography.

Apart from the renewal of the main building, some other structures were refurfished, and they have been turned into the 5 rural houses offered by la Tahona today. They are specially for families and groups that want to count on a complete home for their holidays.

EL MOLINO GRANDE and EL MOLINO PEQUEÑO were the miller old house and his grain and flour warehouse. They are just in front of the original watermill where, respecting the environment, a barbecue zone is located.

LA TABLÁ and EL PAJAR were the building to house the animals and the straw, today reconverted in two rural apartments with one floor and independant entries.

EL CORREDOR was the traditional house where the villagers used to live: stone walls, wooden corridors and a small porch in the entrance.
